The Dining Room

I designed The Dining Room in December 2016. The show takes place over a century, and explores the lives of several different families who all had one dining room table. It starts in the early 1900s and goes all the way to modern day. This was a really fun to design because I got to design costumes for the 40s, 70s, the early 2000s, and so on. I was able to learn more about several different time periods and how to costume the actors accordingly. Every costume in this show was pulled from our stock and put together, or hand sewn/altered by myself.
------------------------------------------
For this show instead of focusing on color for each character, I chose color schemes for each time period. The early 1900s were pale whites, creams, and tans and as we got closer to modern times the colors got richer and patterns became introduced.
------------------------------------------
This show consisted of a lot of research. I went online for hours on end looking up every different time period and pulling reference photos to ensure each time period was costumed accurately and appropriately.
Many of the characters were nameless, and were not given very detailed characteristics, so each actor came up with backstories for their characters, ages, and personalities for me to use to help costume them. This was an amazing learning experience.
